|
|
Hi Folks,
Ive had a search but couldnt find an answer. Ive just got my 3B1 and LA1 gauge, and the controller seems to work fine, i.e. lights are flashing as they should be, I've not tested it in my laptop yet, hopefully will later today.
Anyway, my issue is that when I plug in the LA1 display, nothing happens on the display. Does it need setting up or configuring?
According to the instructions, it should be a simple matter of plug and play. I've tried it in both RJ45 ports on the controller (not that it should matter from my understanding) but still nothing happens. The only thing I have noticed is that the power l.e.d on the 3B1 dims when I plug in the gauge suggesting its powering something, or perhaps shorting out somewhere. Its protected with a 5amp fuse as per instructions, and hasnt blown so dont think shorting is the case.
Anyone able to shed any light on what I could be doing wrong?
Many thanks,
Kyle |

Hi Kyle,
normally it should be plug&drive, in deed.
You could try the following: Hook up the Display to the programming adapter that came with your display (you have to hook up the adapter to 12V, a 9V block battery should work as well btw).
Then run wbutil.exe on your PC and start the "emulator"-Mode. This will emulate a running WBO unit to your display. Moving the sliders should should influence the figures on the display.
If the display shows nothing (i.e. no "nd" either) there must be something fundamental wrong. In this case make sure that the "rescue flash jumper (if LA1 has one?) is NOT shortened.
Next I would try to update the firmware (download the latest *hxf file from wbo2.com). If this does not work try uploading the firmware into the the LA1 after you have set the "Rescue"-Jumper.
The flash memory of the µC under some circumstances gets erased by short high voltage blips.
This is all you can do so far (and what you can prevent from asking TE for a RMA)
Good luck!

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for getting back to me. Being relatively new to all this I appreciate any advice I can get!
Well, abit of progress has been made, last night I tested the gauge with a friends 3B1 controller and it worked instantly. Im not sure why my 3B1 isnt working, but I noticed that his power l.e.d did not dim when plugging in the gauge whereas mine does. This, to me, suggests the board may be faulty?
I also compared jumper settings between the two and they were both the same bar one, which I believe doesnt matter as it is just to prevent the need to join the WB LIN - and GND termals externaly. I tested it in both configurations to no avail.
Contacted the UK distributer and they have asked me to send it back, which I am going to do tomorrow. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of it.
Does this sound sensible or am I missing something very obvious?
Thanks,
Kyle |

Hi Kyle.
Good to hear that you had a friend's WBO2 to check.
This sounds like the 5V/12V pover supply from the WBO2 to the display is broken somehow
I am very impressed of the long term reliability of the TE devices. So I cross my fingers that you have more luck with WBO2 unit number two!

Thanks. Received the replacement unit and gave it a quick test earlier this week, the gauge works fine now, so Im happy. Just need to get the car on the ramp and get it all installed.
Thanks for the advice, they said it looks as if someone had plugged in a network cable and plugged it into a computer as one of the resistors had failed. I know I hadn't plugged it into a computer that way as we use these at work all the time, so they replaced it with a new unit.
Thanks again for your help, look forward to finally mapping my car. |
